Five signs your ad account is running on autopilot

Most of the accounts I inherit aren’t badly built. They were built well once, then left alone. Here’s what that tends to look like:

  1. The same five creatives have been running for four months. Frequency is climbing, CTR is quietly dying, and nobody noticed because the blended numbers still look fine.
  2. Audiences overlap across campaigns. You’re bidding against yourself and calling it “coverage.”
  3. UTM tagging is inconsistent or missing. Nobody can say with confidence which channel actually drove which sale.
  4. The last strategy change coincided with the last platform update, not with any data.
  5. Reporting is a screenshot of the ads dashboard, not a conversation about what changed and why.

None of this is a crisis. It’s just neglect, and it’s the most common thing I find in an audit — more common than any actual targeting or bidding mistake.
